HORSE INTESTINAL CARE
A natural gentle horse cleanser
and builder for the digestive system and colon
(Contains a Probiotic).
The Horse
Intestinal Care formula has been a proven and reliable herb and fiber cleanser used
to help build horses health for over 20 years. Mercedes Colburn, PhD, from Through the Eye
International, developed the original formula using her years of experience with equine
iridology. Horse Intestinal Care is a product you can count on for your horse.
The healing starts in the intestinal system. The center of the horse is the stomach and bowel,
which is the most important part of the animal.
The equine digestive tract is a complex system that is surprisingly delicate. When a horse eats too much, too little, or consumes the wrong kinds of food, trouble in the intestinal system can easily occur. One of the main symptoms seen when the intestinal system is in jeopardy is a dull coat. Other symptoms of trouble in the intestinal system may include a horse becoming tired, cranky, lethargic, or frequently stretching.
Horse Intestinal Care is a safe formula for horses that will gently clean the digestive system, protect the nervous system from cramping, and help heal the intestines. It also adds micro flora to the intestines, which will help maintain the microbial balance throughout the horse’s digestive tract.
BENEFITS OF USING HORSE INTESTINAL CARE
As in humans, what a horse eats can adversely affect the condition of its health. If the digestive system is not running properly, a horse will be weakened and could possibly face fatal situations. A toxic colon poisons every system in the body of a horse.
The Horse Intestinal Care formula can safely keep the colon clean and help prevent disease and illness. The horse will become more capable to function at peak efficiency whether he is a top performance horse, trusted trail horse or your best friend. This formula is a must in every barn and for all horses.
THE EQUINE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
- A horse’s colon is built very long to aid in the removal of nutrients from hay. The length causes the colon to fold over itself and loop around. Because of this, there are several sites of the colon that are prone to impaction.
- One type of colic, called impaction or gas colic, occurs when feed materials build up in a part of the colon and cannot be dislodged.
- Without adequate dietary fiber, a horse is predisposed to nutritional imbalances and colic problems.
- A horse’s digestive system is sensitive and often reacts negatively to change. For the most part, horses do not enjoy a change in diet and prefer to eat what they are accustomed to.
- Any change in feeding can result in bacteria in the digestive system becoming out of balance, which can lead to intestinal problems or even life threatening conditions.

MICROBIAL BALANCE AND THE USE OF PROBIOTICS
Why it’s important for a horse to maintain the microbial balance:
- A horse's stomach requires digestive enzymes to begin the process of breaking down food. When that food is then delivered to the intestinal tract, specific types of bacteria are needed to continue the digestive process, so that the body may absorb the nutrition found in the food. Digestive enzymes work with the gastric juices to start the breakdown, and then bacteria makes the feed into usable, absorbable compounds.
- However, this microbial population of enzymes and bacteria in the equine digestive system is not stable.
- Shifts in the microbial population can affect digestive efficiency. In the worst cases, large die-offs of certain species of bacteria can release endotoxins, which may contribute to colic, enteritis, or laminitis.
- Without the proper microbial balance of digestive enzymes and intestinal bacteria, food passes through the system without being fully digested. This undigested food may lead to situations such as colic, colic-like symptoms, bloating, or may set up an ideal environment for parasite growth.
The need for probiotics:
- Probiotics are either a live of freeze-dried culture of some of the “friendly” species of bacteria that do their work in the digestive tract.
- To maintain digestive efficiency, probiotics are used to maintain a balanced population of enzymes and bacteria.
- By adding probiotics to a horse’s diet, the bacteria that is lost due to stress and other factors is replaced, and major shifts in the microbial population are avoided.
The use of probitotics can help to maintain a healthy microbial balance, setting up an ideal environment for digestion, and maximizing the health and well-being of a horse.
INGREDIENTS IN HORSE INTESTINAL CARE
1. Psyllium Hulls:
The balance of bacteria in the gut is quite delicate and can be upset by even subtle feed changes.
These feed changes lead to increased gut activity and gut dysbiosis. Psyllium hulls are very
high in dietary fiber, which helps to nourish and balance the bacteria in the intestines.
2. Slippery Elm Root Powder:
Traditionally used to treat diarrhea, constipation, enteritis, colitis & irritations of the
stomach. Used to soothe, protect & lubricate mucous membranes. When water is added to the powdered
bark, the “slippery” brew is soothing to irritated mucous membranes of the intestinal
tract, as well as the throat. It is perfectly suited for sensitive or inflamed mucous membrane
linings in the digestive system.
3. Dandelion Root Powder:
Dandelion has a good effect in increasing the appetite and promoting digestion.
It is known to eliminate waste from the liver and lymph system, and is also used as a diuretic
to flush toxins that cause inflammation. It is also high in minerals magnesium, calcium, copper,
iron and vitamins A, B, C and D.
4. Catnip Powder
Catnip helps to ease digestion, to treat colic and to promote sweating, while controlling the symptoms
of diarrhea. Catnip eases any stomach upsets, dyspepsia, flatulence and colic. This enema is
soothing and relaxing and helps dislodge congestion in the Colon.
