WHAT IS EQUINE IRIDOLOGY:
Equine = Greek word meaning horse.
Iridology = the science of analyzing the structures of the iris of the eye to give a survey of the state of the body's health. It has been said the iris is the blueprint of the body.
In the early 1800's near Budapest, Hungary, a young boy named Ignatz von Peczely captured a beautiful owl. As the bird struggled to free himself from his captor, his leg was broken. The frightened bird glared into the young boy’s eye and Ignatz noticed a black stripe appearing in the owl’s eye. The youth splinted the bird’s leg and gently tended the owl until it was well enough to be released. The owl remained in the garden for years and during this time von Peszely was able to watch the changes in the eye of the owl as the leg healed.
When Ignatz von Peczely grew up he became a physician and he continued to be fascinated by the irises of many injured patients in the Surgical Ward. He was certain that the iris mirrored tissue changes and the effects of the illness and or injuries upon the different bodily organs
Although references to the eye, in relationship to our health, date back thousands of years, Iridology has been closely associated with nutrition in Europe for many years. It has only recenty gained acceptlance as a legitimate science in the United States.
As we now find Equine Iridology in its infancy, it is also proving to be one of many powerful tools that can provide health information for the horse owner and health care professionals.
